branded entertainment: combines advertising or product placement with entertainment, ie. films, television and radio. For example, the production of the BMW Films which featured actor, Clive Owen, as “The Driver” in a number of action-packed short films to showcase the performance features of BMWs, under the direction of big names such as John Woo and Ang Lee. creative commons: is a system of copyright licensing that protects the rights of the creator and distribution of their works. See creative commons and creative commons australia.
online/interactive cinema: refers to a number of different concepts. For example, it can be used to describe games where users are more engaged and involved in the movement of characters in the game play. It also refers to film projects where the audience decides how the story will end. See The Onyx Project and Kino-Automat.
social networking: online community sites built for people with similar interests. Members contribute, exchange or share materials with their friends or colleagues. See Facebook, StumbleUpon, and LinkedIn.
user-generated content: enables anyone to self-publish or distribute their work online and therefore not reliant on traditional publishing or distribution channels. See Wikipedia and YouTube.
virtual community: any group of enthusiasts or members who come together in an online environment to share experiences. Can be based around social or hobby interests or business endeavours. See The Well and Second Life.
virtual reality: is a computer-generated simulation where a user can move around or play within it through the use of special goggles or body suits.
